I had one of my fellow photographer buddies send me this wonderful photo yesterday. I told her to send me over how she did it as I think this is a great creative photo. Here is what Ginny had to say about how she photographed this…
On an early morning outing to the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, we came across some trees filled with nesting birds. These two little egret chicks were peeking out from behind some foliage. This was shot with a Canon 7D at f/5.6, 1/500, -0.67, ISO 400. The lens was a Canon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO. I used the Fractalius filter and PhotoShop CS5, then did a layer mask in order to bring out some detail on the birds and added a soft white frame around the entire photo.
Ginny is one of my students. I’m not sure why she took the class, looks like she can hold her own. Working with someone who is motivated like Ginny, makes it much easier for the photography process. She doesn’t mind doing or accessing the resources needed to get the best result for the type of photography that she is going for.
Great job. I hope to see more of her beautiful work here in the future.
Until next time…
