Punta Gorda, Florida Photowalk 2011

This post will be light on text and heavy on photos. Last week was the fourth annual World Wide Photo Walk. Here in southwest Florida we had beautiful weather as the heat FINALLY broke. There was a nice breeze and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. We had 17 people come (including myself) and people came as far as Ft. Lauderdale, Bradenton and Ft. Myers. We all split off after our initial gathering and met up for dinner at one of the local restaurants. Of course there was some ribbing going on back and forth between the Canon and Nikon people, which lead to the argument of PC vs Mac. Luckily, this didn’t end up in a food fight, which is how the last discussion of this nature turned out!

Ok, enough of the talking. If you are interested in seeing the Flickr site that houses all of the photos, you can click here. There are some amazing photos that people took. The first couple of photos were taken by a couple of the photowalk members and I will give them credit as we go along.

It takes a REAL man to blow bubbles for others to photograph! Talk about thinking out of the box.

We’ll see how many of these people we recognize in the post office later!

 You’ve Got Mail – Spencer Pullen © 2011

This was taken at an abandoned restaurant. As you can see, they still have some mail that needs to be picked up.

They just finished a new parking garage a couple of years ago. I thought it would be neat to get some industrial looking photos. I had to lie on my back and shoot straight up to get this one.

The sun was setting and there was a beautiful gold colored light shining on the pylons under the southbound U.S. 41 bridge that comes into Punta Gorda. I didn’t have a tripod so I sat on the ground and steadied the camera as best I could for this 1-second exposure.

As the sun kept setting, I liked how the colors were changing. This has more purples than the bright oranges that we are accustomed to seeing.

Well, I hope that you enjoyed these. If you attended a walk this year, I hope that you captured something that grabbed your interest. If you missed the walk this year, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the one next year.

Until next time…

UPDATE: As of October 11, 2011 the winner has been chosen. It was a difficult decision as there were many great photos that were entered. After much deliberation, Ginny Diehm with her “Bubbles” photo won the Punta Gorda Photo Walk. She said that, “I couldn’t have done it without the bubble blower.” This is how we get excited in Southwest Florida, what can I tell you. In all seriousness, congrats Ginny, great job!

  1. Great Photos, great company and a wonderful time had by all. Can’t wait till the next one!

  2. It was an enjoyable evening; much cooler that some of the previous Photowalks. It was fun to walk around Punta Gorda taking pictures of everything but very much enjoyed the socialization after the walk and just getting acquainetd. Good Evening; Thank You, Spencer.
